Carlene's research focuses on using mathematical models to describe energy balance and metabolism during both weight loss and weight gain, in both males and females. These models play an important role in determining the key factors that decide the overall physiological response to a diet. In particular, I have an interest in the sex-specific response to energy deprivation and overfeeding during different stages of the life-cycle. My expertise covers all levels of biochemistry, from these mathematical models, through to molecular experimentation (including recombinant protein production and structural analysis), cell-culture model systems and clinical trials.
