I am involved in the BIOPROTEIN (Protein quality: bio-availability, bio-accessibility and bioactivity) project. This project is a collaboration between the Riddet Institute and Teagasc in Ireland. Proteins will be extracted from seaweed, microalgae, blood, fish co-products and milk. The quality and digestibility of these proteins will be evaluated using a range of methods. The fate of these proteins during gut transit will be analysed using in vitro gastrointestinal digestion models developed at Teagasc. The bioavailability of the proteins across the intestinal barrier will also be evaluated.
Affiliated with Massey University and Teagasc, Agriculture and Food Development Authority, Ireland.
