Jeremy Hill appointed Adjunct Professor at Massey University
The Riddet Institute is honoured to appoint Jeremy Hill as an Adjunct Professor at Massey University in recognition of his professional achievements in dairy science and technology, and his proven leadership qualities.
Director of the Riddet Institute, Distinguished Professor Harjinder Singh, said Professor Hill will help mentor the food science leaders of tomorrow.
“Professor Hill brings an incredible wealth of knowledge from his 30-year career working in, and advocating on behalf of, the dairy sector and the critical role it plays in nutrition and sustainable development. He is passionate about the critical role sustainable nutrition plays in society and the opportunity for New Zealand to take a leading role in helping solve some of the world’s significant challenges.
“This role is awarded to distinguished members of the community who have demonstrated an excellence of scholarship, the highest level of professional achievement, and proven capacity of leadership, and Professor Hill exemplifies this.
“In this role, Professor Hill will continue to strengthen the relationships between the Riddet Institute’s academic and research spheres and those of the agri-food industries. He will also advise on agri-food matters and the translation of research to real commercial outcomes,” says Professor Singh.

About Professor Jeremy Hill
Professor Hill has worked for the New Zealand dairy sector for over 30 years, including leadership roles at the Livestock Improvement Corporation and Fonterra Research and Development Centre. As Fonterra’s Chief Science and Technology Officer, he calls on a combination of internal and external expertise to provide support and advice to the Co-operative on science and technology related matters.
Dr Jeremy Hill has maintained a close relationship with the Riddet Institute since its establishment in 2007 as a Centre of Research Excellence. He was a member of the Riddet Institute Board of Governance from 2008-2011 and played a major role in developing strategic partnerships between Fonterra and the Riddet Institute. This included alignment of the Primary Growth Partnership (PGP)-post farm-gate dairy programme with Riddet Institute research, resulting in in the establishment of three Professorial Chairs within the Riddet Institute in Food Material Science, Nutrition, and Consumer and Sensory Science.
Professor Hill is President of the International Dairy Federation (IDF) in New Zealand and between 2012-2016 he served as the Global IDF President and Chairman of the IDF Board of Directors. In October 2016, on behalf of the global dairy sector, he co-signed the Dairy Declaration of Rotterdam with the Food and Agricultural Organisation of the United Nations recognising the critical role of dairy in nutrition and sustainable development.
Together with the CEOs of Fonterra, Arla Foods, Royal FrieslandCampina and Dairy Farmers of America, Professor Hill served on the Board of Directors of the Global Dairy Platform which represents the collaborative interests of the commercial dairy sector. He was a foundation Governor of the Global Dairy Agenda for Action on sustainability and chaired the Dairy Sustainability Framework Advisory Board composed of diverse expertise from senior leaders from the Food and Agricultural Organisation of the United Nations, World Bank, World Wildlife Fund, American Human Society, ASDA Walmart, Rabobank, Roundtable for Sustainable Beef, and Solidaridad, an international civil society organization focussed on facilitating the development of socially responsible, ecologically sound and profitable supply chains.
Professor Hill has a PhD in biochemistry, sits on the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Dairy Technology, is an inventor of a number of patents, and has published over 100 papers and book chapters, including an overview of the global socioeconomic and environmental impact of the dairy sector.
