Janice is a postdoctoral researcher at the Riddet Institute focusing on providing evidence-based nutrition solutions to food products.

She graduated with her PhD from at Massey University, College of Health, Auckland campus in 2020. Her PhD research investigated the impact of phenolic-rich plant extracts (pine bark, grape seed, rooibos tea, and olive leaf) on glycaemic control in humans with the aim to slow the progression of prediabetes into type 2 diabetes mellitus. The study also examined the underlying mechanistic actions of the phenolic extracts on glucose metabolism such as the enzymatic inhibition of alpha-amylase and effects on incretin levels.

Her research interests are in the area of applied nutrition with a focus on functional food products and food bioactives and performing clinical trials to examine their impact on obesity, hypertension, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases.

Area of Expertise
