Professor Leo Cheng is a Principal Investigator at the Auckland Bioengineering Institute, University of Auckland where he leads the Gastrointestinal Motility Research Group.

With the Riddet Institute, Leo is a member of the Research Leadership Group and an Associate Investigator.

Leo’s main research interests are in measuring, characterising and developing mathematical simulations of the electrophysiological events (also known as slow waves) that occur within the gastrointestinal tract. The ultimate aim is to improve our understanding of gastrointestinal motility patterns and their influence on ingested digesta and gut health. He has active collaborations with a number of universities and hospitals in the US, Germany and Belgium and is also a Research Assistant Professor at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN.
