Riddet Institute to launch new book in early December

The Riddet Institute is launching Floreat Scientia in early December, to celebrate New Zealand’s innovations in agrifood.

Comprising 43 chapters and 41 different authors, this fully illustrated hardback is aimed at a general reader interested in the achievements of those who spent their working lives solving problems and continuously innovating in the agricultural and food sciences. Some concluding chapters examine where the current wave of innovators in the sector have turned their attention.

Professor Paul Moughan FRSNZ, who edited the book, says that the opportunities around agrifood and related industries have never been greater. “We wanted to inspire people with these great stories of innovation and excellence. From spreadable butter to green-lipped mussels to cures for facial eczema, this book covers a wide range of innovations, but the fascinating stories within are essentially about the people who made these discoveries.”

The title ‘Floreat Scientia’ taken from Massey University’s motto and translated from Latin as ‘let knowledge flourish’ captures the essence of the book.

The book is being published by Random House New Zealand.
