Yin holds degrees in Animal Science from Massey University and a PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Canterbury. She is a systems-thinking scientist specialising in quantitative modelling, data engineering, and applied analytics. She is currently contributing to the development of national food systems models and its data architechture with the SNi.

Before joining the Riddet Institute, she was a researcher in the School of Veterinary Science at Massey University. Her work applied modelling, biostatistics, and data science to adress questions in farm systems, sustainability, animal nutrition, and health to inform policy and support evidence-based decision-making in agriculture.

She is especially interested in evaluating model assumptions, validating outputs against real-world systems, and improving the robustness of analytical tools where biological complexity or system constraints limit performance.
