Dharani joined the Food Bioprocessing Group at the Riddet Institute as a Research Officer for the Riddet–BSI project, “Precision Fermentation and Metabolic Engineering of Microorganisms for Advanced Infant Formula Ingredients,” bringing extensive international research experience in metabolic engineering, precision fermentation, and bioprocess design across microbial systems.
Her research career spans India and Israel, beginning with doctoral research at the Institute of Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding & Forest Research Institute University, India, where she applied systems biology to investigate the genetic and regulatory networks governing wood formation, with relevance to the paper and pulp industries.
During her postdoctoral research at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, she developed CRISPR-Cas genome-editing and mutagenesis platforms, while investigating plant–microbe interactions, microbial communication, and bacterial collective behaviour. This work contributed to publications in leading journals, including PNAS.
At Absolute, India, she worked as a scientist, leading microbial genomics research encompassing strain discovery, strain engineering, biomolecule production, and product formulation.
