Dr Debashree Roy's selection for the KiwiNet Emerging Innovator Programme highights her talent and innovative thinking in the field of food technology

Riddet Institute researcher selected for KiwiNet's Emerging Innovator Programme

25 June 2024 - Riddet Institute Research Officer Dr Debashree Roy has been selected for the prestigious KiwiNet Emerging Innovator Programme.

This programme supports and nurtures promising Kiwi scientists with entrepreneurial potential, helping them achieve commercial success and become future innovators for New Zealand. Dr Roy’s research focuses on food structure, digestion, and innovation projects, under the Riddet Institute CoRE funding ‘Future Foods in Harmony with Nature.’

KiwiNet’s Emerging Innovator Programme offers $10,000 in project funding, mentorship, and resources to help scientists build industry connections and develop proof-of-concept for disruptive new inventions. Dr Roy will receive guidance from a commercial mentor tailored to her needs and will receive access to resources to support the commercialisation journey. The primary goal of the KiwiNet’s Emerging Innovator programme is the development of the commercial aspiration and core capability of Emerging Innovator recipient.

Dr Roy looks forward to leveraging the Programme's support, including mentorship, funding, and industry connections, to advance her research, entrepreneurial goals, and professional upskilling.

Dr Roy is currently a research officer with Riddet Insitue. She joined the Riddet Institute as a Postdoctoral Fellow in 2021 after completing her PhD in Food Technology at Massey University. She brings valuable experience from her industrial research and development work in the Middle East and her academic background, including a Master’s in Food Technology from CFTRI, India, and a Bachelor’s in Agriculture from BCKV, India.
